How to stock oral strips at the till: a counter display playbook

Where to place a 20-sachet display box, how to mix 1-strip and 3-strip sachets, and when to reorder. A retail playbook for HIIRS.

Key takeaways
  • Put the display box within reach of the card terminal; impulse products are bought while paying, not while browsing.
  • Start mixed (ten 1-strip, ten 3-strip sachets); the single converts first-time buyers, the 3-pack is the repeat purchase.
  • Reorder when the box is half empty: an empty fan of sachets reads as “sold out” and stops selling.
  • One line of staff training is enough: “One strip under the tongue, dissolves in five seconds.”

Oral strips sell like gum, not like supplements. Nobody plans to buy one; they see the box at the till, ask what it is, and take one with their change. That changes everything about how you stock them.

Placement: next to the terminal

The 20-sachet display box is the fixture. Put it on the counter within arm’s reach of the card terminal, lid folded open so the sachets fan upright. Shelf placement in a supplement aisle does not work for this product: there it competes with 60-capsule bottles on price per dose and loses. At the till it competes with nothing.

If you have more than one till, give each its own box. A box behind the counter that staff have to reach for sells a fraction of what a box in front of the customer sells.

Fill: mixed first, then follow the reorders

HIIRS comes in a 1-strip sachet (50 mg, one serving) and a 3-strip sachet (150 mg, three servings). The single is the trial size; the 3-pack is what people come back for.

Start with a mixed box: ten of each. After two or three weeks the reorder pattern tells you what your customers want. Convenience and vape stores usually end up heavier on singles; adult retail and pharmacies lean toward the 3-pack.

Reorder before the box looks empty

A display box with four sachets left looks like leftovers. Reorder at half. Stock partners get a 48-hour reorder; keep one backup box behind the counter so the front box never runs dry.

What to tell staff

One sentence: “One strip on or under the tongue, dissolves in about five seconds, no water.” That is the whole pitch. Add the one caution printed on the pack: not to be combined with other supplements or medication.

Pricing the shelf

Ask for the price list and work backwards from the single sachet. The single should sit at an impulse price point for your market; the 3-pack at a little under three singles, so the repeat buyer feels the saving. The margin per sachet is on the price list; the margin per square centimetre of counter is the point.

Questions

How many display boxes does a single-till store need?

One per till. A second box behind the counter as backup stock keeps the front box full.

Should the box face the customer or the staff?

The customer. The lid folds open and stands the sachets upright; the holographic foil is the signage.
