Importing food supplements from Norway: a document checklist for first orders

The paperwork a first HIIRS order involves: commercial invoice, packing list, HS code, specification sheet, certificate of analysis, and who handles what.

Key takeaways
  • Norway is in the EEA but outside the EU customs union: shipments into the EU and the UK need an import declaration.
  • We supply the commercial invoice, packing list, HS code, specification sheet and certificate of analysis; the importer handles local notification.
  • Decide EXW or DAP before the quote: it changes who books freight and who clears customs.
  • Ask for the logistics sheet early; case pack and pallet plan decide your landed cost.

A first order of food supplements from Norway is not complicated, but it goes faster when both sides know who produces which document. This is the checklist we work from.

Before the quote

Tell us the destination country, your preferred incoterm (EXW Oslo or DAP to your warehouse) and the expected monthly volume. The quote then comes with two documents: the price list and the logistics sheet (units per case, boxes per case, pallet plan, HS code). Those two numbers decide your landed cost.

Documents we provide

  • Commercial invoice and packing list for customs.
  • HS code on the logistics sheet.
  • Product specification sheet: composition per strip, film weight, dimensions, dissolve time, storage.
  • Certificate of analysis per batch, shipped with the goods; a sample certificate on request.
  • Manufacturing documentation (EU food-supplement GMP standard) on request, under NDA if needed.
  • Label artwork files: current Norwegian artwork, English and market versions for distribution partners.

Documents the importer handles

Food-supplement rules differ by market. In most countries the importer or distributor notifies or registers the product locally and is the importer of record. We supply the documentation above; we do not give legal advice on local requirements.

Customs and shipping

Norway is in the EEA but not in the EU customs union, so goods entering the EU or the UK are declared at import. For the Nordics this is routine and quick. For the Gulf, North America and Australia, first orders usually go by air; replenishment by consolidated air or sea.

With DAP, we book the freight and you receive at your warehouse. With EXW, your forwarder collects in Oslo. Either way the paperwork above travels with the goods.

After arrival

Check the lot number and expiry on the sachets against the certificate of analysis. Keep the certificate with your batch records; your retailers’ purchasing or quality teams may ask for it.

Questions
